Local residents celebrate King Charles’ Coronation at The Heath Business and Technical Park’s community party

Runcorn: May 3rd, 2023: More than 200 local residents joined special guest Lady Anne Dodd for a Coronation Celebration at The Heath Business and Technical Park today.

The event was organised by Eat@TheHeath Community Group, an organisation set up and sponsored by the business park’s owners SOG Ltd to develop a community programme to combat loneliness and isolation for the elderly and those who live alone.

Among the VIPs was Cheshire Deputy Lieutenant, Mrs Jennifer Roulston Parry, who proposed the Loyal Toast to King Charles III.

Mrs Roulston Parry told guests: “I am personally delighted to be able to celebrate this historical event here with you all at The Heath Business and Technical Park.  Not only does it support 2000 jobs in this wonderful town, but it is the jewel in the crown for Runcorn’s community.  SOG has opened their facilities and dedicated a team to our community and have supported such a wide range of activities, and have even gone to the level of purchasing a minibus so nobody is left out.”

Mrs Roulston Parry praised volunteers who give up their time to support the Eat@TheHeath team to stage community events.

She said: “Volunteers are what make community and our country stronger, so much so that the King has invited the nation to take part in ‘The Big Help Out’, his volunteering initiative.  The King’s other passion is the environment, and we are very excited for The Heath and the visionary plans for the Net Zero environment.”

SOG boss John Lewis MBE, nephew of legendary comedian Sir Ken Dodd, said: “It was wonderful that the Deputy Lieutenant and Lady Anne could join us for this very special celebration and to also recognise the efforts of The Heath’s fantastic team of volunteers who do so much to stage events and give support to those living locally who might feel lonely or isolated.”

Guests enjoyed an ‘afternoon tea-style’ occasion with a menu that included ’Quiche Le Reign’, the signature dish chosen by King Charles and the Queen Consort especially for the coronation.

The Heath’s Events Hall was decked out in red, white and blue with lots of entertainment and live music by Lorraine ‘Lainey’ Buckles for guests to sing along and dance to.

Tables competed in an indoor curling competition with prizes for the highest score. There was also a raffle with prizes donated and all proceeds going towards subsidising Eat@TheHeath’s community summer outings. Every table had a £10 Asda gift voucher beneath a plate on the place settings too.

As well as Eat@TheHeath monthly lunches and music sessions which provide a platform for local people to meet, there are also weekly gatherings with community forums on topical subjects and a chance to engage with the local Police Community Support officers who have an office at The Heath. The weekly gatherings are organised by Eileen Miller and Alison Albion from SOG’s Community Team.
